Short-Term Residence Permit

This is the most common type of residence permit for foreigners who wish to stay in Turkey longer than the duration of their visa. It can be issued for up to 2 years for purposes such as tourism, business ties, or real estate ownership.

Nedir?

A short-term residence permit is a document issued under the Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, which allows foreigners to legally stay in Turkey for a specific period of time.

Foreign nationals who intend to stay longer than the period granted by the visa or visa exemption issued upon entry into the country (generally 90 days) must submit an application for this permit in accordance with the purpose of their stay. As a general rule, it may be issued for a period of up to 2 years each time.

Required Documents

  • Application Form

    A form completed and signed through the e-Residence system.

  • Passport

    The original passport and photocopies of the identification pages and transaction pages.

  • Biometric Photo

    Four photos taken within the last 6 months against a white background.

  • Health Insurance

    A valid health insurance policy covering the duration of the stay.

  • Proof of Address

    A notarized lease agreement, a property title deed, or a certificate of residence obtained from the Population Registry Office.

  • Financial Eligibility

    A statement or document confirming that the applicant has sufficient and regular financial resources for the duration of the stay.

  • Tuition Payment Receipts

    Receipts confirming payment of the residence permit fee and card fee.

Important: Depending on the purpose of your application (student, business, real estate, etc.), the authorities may request additional documents (property deed, invitation letter, student ID, etc.).

Application Process

Online Registration

The application form is filled out through the e-Residence system.

Appointment

A suitable date and time for the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management is selected through the system.

File Submission

On the day of the appointment, you go to the agency in person with the prepared file.

Evaluation

The file is reviewed; if any information is missing, an additional 30 days is granted.

Conclusion

If the result is positive, the card is printed and sent to the address via PTT.

No, a short-term residence permit does not, by itself, grant the right to work. To work, you must also obtain a work permit. However, those who have obtained a work permit do not need to obtain a separate residence permit.
