Student Residence Permit

This is the type of residence permit required for foreign students who will be pursuing an associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Turkey.

Important Information

Applications for a student residence permit are submitted through the e-Residence system system. After completing the application form, you may be required to submit it, along with the necessary documents, to your university’s International Student Office (or the office designated by the Immigration Authority) no later than 10 days from the date of application.

Required Documents

  • Application Form

    A form with a wet signature obtained from the e-Residence system.

  • Passport

    Copies of the original and processed pages.

  • Student ID

    A current document bearing an electronic or handwritten signature that verifies active student status.

  • Biometric Photo

    Four photos taken within the last 6 months against a white background.

  • Health Insurance

    Valid health insurance (GSS or private insurance).

  • Proof of Address

    Proof of residence, a notarized lease agreement, or a property deed.

  • Card Fee Receipt

    Receipt confirming payment of the stamp duty.

  • UETS Certificate

    A UETS (National Electronic Service of Process) certificate obtained through e-Government.

Points to Keep in Mind

Change of School/Department

If you change faculties or departments within the same province, you must submit a notification within 20 days. If you move to a different province, you must apply to that province’s Migration Directorate within 10 days.

Leave of Absence

The residence permits of students who have put their studies on hold will be revoked. They must reapply when they return to school.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your student residence permit expires on the date of graduation. If you plan to stay, you must apply for a “Short-Term Residence Permit” (which can be applied for within 6 months after graduation) within 10 days.
A student residence permit does not, in and of itself, grant the right to work. However, associate’s and bachelor’s degree students may apply for a work permit (part-time) after their first year. There are no time restrictions for master’s and doctoral students.
If your address or contact information changes, you must notify the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management and the Population Directorate within 20 business days.
No "Residence Permit Fee" is required for student residence permit applications; applicants are exempt from this fee. Only the "Card Fee" is required.
