Family Residence Permit
Income Calculation
How much monthly income do you need to show in order to bring your family to Turkey? Calculate the amount required by law based on the size of your family.
Who are you applying on behalf of?
You are the caregiver; the law considers you a member of the family as well.
Your total monthly income
The sponsor's documented monthly net income.
Desired income for a 1-person family
Desired monthly income
28,075.50 ₺
Where does this number come from?
A common misconception: these aren't collected
In many places, it says, “The minimum wage plus is one-third for each person.” There is no such calculation in the law. There are two separate minimum thresholds, and the required amount is the greater of the two. Therefore, in families of up to three people, an income equal to the minimum wage is sufficient; starting with the fourth person, the per-person calculation comes into effect.
Net or gross?
Neither the law nor the text published by the Presidency of Migration Management states this. In practice, governorates generally use the net minimum wage as a basis; the figure above was also calculated based on the net amount (28,075.50 ₺). If the gross minimum wage (33,030.00 ₺) were used as the basis, the required amount would be 33,030.00 ₺. If you’re right at the limit, it’s safer to prepare based on the higher figure.
Requirements for a sponsor
Income is just one of these.
Sufficient monthly income

Someone who has recently arrived in Turkey on a work permit can apply for their family without waiting a year.

What You Need to Know Before Applying
A permission cannot be longer than the permission of its parent
m.34/1
A family residence permit is granted for a maximum of three years each time; however, it may not under any circumstances exceed the duration of the sponsor’s residence permit. If the sponsor’s permit expires after one year, the family permit will not be granted for three years, but only until that date.
No separate student permit is required for the child
m.34/4
A family residence permit grants the right to attend elementary and secondary schools without obtaining a student residence permit until the age of eighteen.
Transition to the short-term program at age 18
m.34/5
Individuals who have resided in Turkey for at least three years under a family residence permit and have reached the age of eighteen may, upon request, convert this permit to a short-term residence permit.
What happens in the event of a divorce?
m.34/6
A foreign national married to a Turkish citizen may be granted a short-term residence permit, provided they have resided in the country for at least three years under a family residence permit. If a court ruling confirms that the foreign spouse is a victim of domestic violence, the three-year residency requirement does not apply.
If the sponsor passes away
m.34/7
In the event of the sponsor’s death, those remaining in the country under a family residence permit linked to the sponsor may be granted a short-term residence permit without any time requirement.
Multiple spouses and joint custody
m.34/2–3
Under the laws of the country of citizenship, if a person is married to more than one spouse, a family residence permit is granted to only one spouse; it may be granted to children born to the other spouses. For applications submitted on behalf of children, the consent of the mother or father with joint custody outside of Turkey is required.
An arranged marriage wastes time
m.37/3
Residence permits obtained through a marriage of convenience and subsequently revoked are not counted toward the accumulation of the residence periods specified in the Law. The period accumulated toward a long-term residence permit and citizenship is also voided in this manner.
No conditions may be required for refugee status or subsidiary protection
m.35/4
For refugees and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection residing in Turkey, the requirements for a sponsor may not apply.
